PC’s Blog
Celebrate good times come on, let’s have a celebration! My apologies to Kool and The Gang but it is time that we as a congregation celebrate the wonderful things that God is accomplishing in and through us. Specifically we want to have a party to celebrate where we are financially and to finish the work we began.
Call it what you will, Sunday; Valentine’s Day; or Fat Sunday, February 14th is going to be a day to remember. We will have one (1) worship time at 9:00 a.m., followed by a brunch that is sponsored by the Finance Committee. While we are eating we will have a chance to bid on some unique items. Included in this newsletter is a partial list of what will be auctioned.
All of the proceeds will go toward reducing a loan of $8,800 that was needed to cash flow the church during some of 2008 and 2009.
Join in the fun, celebrate the good times together.
A huge thank you to Marvel Smith who, for so many years, has faithfully been our church treasurer. She has stepped down from that ministry. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!
Welcome Becki Kenton as our new treasurer. It is a huge ministry that affects us all and we thank you for stepping forward. Becki will be working with our office manager Ann Green to continue the good work Marvel has been doing. If you have any questions about the finances of DWUMC don’t hesitate to ask Pastor Chuck, Becki, Ann, or any member of the Finance Committee.

UMCOR Advance # for Haiti Emergency: 418325
United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti. The strong ties between the Methodist Church of Haiti and The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) helped in facilitating the opening of the UMCOR Haiti field office in 2005. 100 percent of Advance gifts made will go to support relief and development efforts due to emergencies in Haiti.
You can donate through DWUMC (designate the number above on your check)
or you can donate direct on-line at

…on one weekend all around the world, 11 million United Methodists came together to work with their local communities? What if…as we serve people locally, we unite globally to eliminate a preventable, treatable disease that kills one child every 30 seconds? On April 24 and 25, your congregation is invited to participate in Change the World, an event that will reveal the many ways that faithful Christians everywhere are serving God.
Getting started:
1)how your congregation currently impacts its community. Do you have a food pantry, a clothing closet, an ESL program, a tutoring program, etc.?
2)an activity for an existing or new outreach ministry on either April 24 or 25, 2010.
3)both your congregation and local community to be involved.
4)the Rethink Church World Malaria Day (April 25) Sermon Starter coming soon to
www.rethinkchurch.org/changetheworld5)a special offering to combat malaria.
There is one body in Christ and through the United Methodist connection; we can sense its heartbeat in a coordinated event such as Change the World. Go to
www.rethinkchurch.org/changetheworld for more information, or send an email to changetheworld@umcom.orgIf you are interested in coordinating this ministry opportunity at DWUMC contact Pastor Chuck

Rudy’s Tacos Fund Raiser Jan. 29 – Feb. 4
Rudy’s Tacos has presented our church with a fund raising opportunity. During the week of Friday, January 29 – Thursday, February 4, DeWitt United Methodist Church’s name will appear on their business sign. Barbara & Dan Marchant, owners of the restaurant, have generously offered to donate 10% of all proceeds from that week back to the church. Take time to enjoy some Mexican food that week and support this fund raiser! Please thank Barbara & Dan for this wonderful act of kindness.
From the Well
The next Mission Committee meeting will be held Monday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Just a few things from our committee to let the congregation know what we have accomplished together during 2009. Some of the following items were collected and sent to the conference. Others stayed here so we could pay on our advance specials.
Tools of Hope - $1,850.00
Brat Stand - $231.75
Chicken Dinner - $2,871.16
Coffee Ministries - $39.60
Easter Breakfast - $84.00
ELF Meals - $856.46
Ice Cream Social - $978.50
Produce Table - $461.95
UNICEF - $279.58
In addition, we collected over $1,500 in food and $300 in mittens, gloves, scarves and caps for the Referral Center. We also contribute $100 a month to Connectional Ministries.
There is so much more. Whenever the Mission Committee asks for help, our congregation always responds. DUMC does a great job of working together. We will try to keep you updated as the year progresses. As always, thanks for your support.
– Dennis Mumm, Mission Committee Chair

Haiti Collection
On January 12, a 7.0 earthquake rocked the country of Haiti. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is seeking donations to aid in the relief efforts. If you feel moved to donate, please drop a check in the collection plate. Make your check out to DeWitt United Methodist Church with the word Haiti in the memo. These funds will be sent to UMCOR in the form of one check from the church. Thank you in advance for your compassion and generosity.
And yet another opportunity
…Every Monday thru Friday at 11:30 the DeWitt GenAge Café is serving a meal to persons 60 or better and their spouses. For a suggested donation of only $2.75 a great meal is served and there is a chance to fellowship with others.
The DeWitt United Methodist Church and Generations Area Agency on Aging have partnered to provide a new congregate meal site for area seniors. Most recently meeting in the community center, the GenAge Café (congregate meals) was originally started here in DeWitt at the United Methodist Church.
Interested in more than just a meal? How about being part of a ministry team that would plan movies, card games, exercise opportunities, Bible Studies, discussions, or any variety of activities to take place before, after, or even during the meals. Contact Pastor Chuck if you would like to discuss the possibilities.
To reserve a meal call 1-800-892-9085, ext. 305 by noon the day before you plan to eat.
United Methodist Women
Once again the local unit of UMW has had a year of success. In addition to our district pledge of $3,640 in 2009, we gave to a dozen other causes to help women, children, and youth at home and abroad. Our total giving last year was $5,682.65, including $650 for disaster relief to Cedar Rapids and Parkersburg. Monies come from individual pledges, the annual bazaar, rummage and bake sale, plus the donations we receive from funeral luncheons and others we serve throughout the year. We are a unit of 43 members, some of whom are no longer able to be active, so new members are always welcome and appreciated.
We were pleased to send a Gift of Missions in honor of Dale and Dolores Bergert for all their hard work and dedication in keeping our church building and grounds beautiful. Vern Fleagle’s Special Mission Recognition was sent to honor him for his faithful service as our finance chairman the last several years and for his painting skills he so often shared. Gifts in memory were given for Blanche Behr, Mike Roth, Lyle Weber, and David Huseby.
United Methodist Women is a worldwide organization of a million members with mission-giving its primary goal. Last year UMW gave over nineteen million dollars for worthwhile causes around the globe. This helps to support hospitals, health clinics, daycare centers, schools, shelters, and sometimes loans, or seed money, to assist families in becoming more independent.
We extend sincere thanks and gratitude for generous hearts in making all of this possible. - Members of DeWitt United Methodist Women
To the DeWitt UMC,
How can I fully express the kindness and comfort I have received in the illness and subsequent death of my daughter, Vicki Roth – the same that was given during her son, Mike’s illness and death. The phone calls, visits, food (including Chuck’s vegetable soup), and the lovely and warm prayer shawl from the ABS Group are all very much appreciated.
How very fortunate my family and I have been to receive the prayers and amazing grace from our Lord and his people.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
